i love what this Iranian woman just is saying in an interview on CBC radio [listen online: www.cbc.ca]
well, you know my parents sent me away to austria to be safe [from the war], and i went there planning to become the president of the world.. and you know, i came back a junkie. so it was not exactly as i'd planned.
and
the problem with the western world is that you're sure that the women are emancipated because they can show their breasts and their legs. And there's nothing wrong with showing your breasts and your legs, but sometimes you can become a slave to that, too.
and
during the revolution, iranian women were wearing the shortest miniskirts they could. But if they lost their virginity before marriage, their father or brother could kill them. So what's the point of that miniskirt, if you can't lose your virginity if you want? democracy can't happen overnight.. you can't give it to them by bombing them and changing the regime. it is a social revolution.
oh cbc.
