my middle eastern co-worker spent the day compulsively reading and re-reading three different newspapers, as though they might give her news of friends in Iraq.
By the afternoon, she was dissolving into tears every hour.

I'm most angry, i think, about the patriarchal nature of this war. We have most governments in the world opposing this war. We have MILLIONS of people taking to the streets in quest of peace.
And we still have the American government saying: "yeah... thanks for coming out. But we're actually the only ones who know what's best for this earth [as evidenced by our rejection of the Kyoto and landmines treaties, and our recent refusal to honour the rights of POWs from Afghanistan]. PLUS we have god on our side, so.... we don't need you OR your approval.
In fact, we'll just go ahead and do whatever we want, and pat ourselves on the backs for having the guts to go out there and act [read: kill thousands of innocent civilians].
You'll thank us later. Really."
