in case you're wondering...
honesty really is always the best policy.
i'm in new york city for a few days. it's my first time here. I said this to a friend and he looked at me aghast (you've NEVER BEEN TO new york city??) and said, "i thought you looked innocent".
I'm sipping coffee in an apartment in greenwich village. it's cool and rainy outside but i'm looking forward to getting out and wandering, wide-eyed. From Toronto it wouldn't be such a big deal, but it's so gigantic after New Orleans. cosmopolitan. diverse. i ate thai food last night and nearly swooned.
i was miraculously upgraded to first class on the flight here and was incredibly grateful as i was real live snotball due to an overwhelming allergy attack. i sipped my glass of white wine as they loaded the hoi polloi into steerage class. i thought: "i could get used to this".
i'm here with one of my oldest, closest friends; i'm somewhat amazed to find we are still friends after all these years - we are just so different. On the phone trying to convince the apartment owner to waive the damage deposit, i described my friend and i as "professionals in our late twenties" and was immediately overwhelmed by giggles. When we're together I often feel 19 again.
it was hard to leave new orleans yesterday. I know there are many adventures ahead (new york! toronto! philippines! india!), but sometimes I think I'd rather stay home and have some emotional adventures... i mean that, but ha! get me on a rope bridge over a rushing river on the way to a remote village and i'll take it back.
enough! i'm off to explore the big apple.
