i biked up to see an old friend. She's not that far - a bit over 6 km, so it should have been nothing, but it was uphill almost the whole way and it's hot. I was tired when i started but it felt good to dig in. By the time i got there i was dripping sweat and high on endorphins. This is such a beautiful city. Big swathes of green space are threaded through most of the northwest (read:the rich part). We wandered through the park and neighbourhoods for an hour, just catching up. Life got so small that just going to a new neighbourhood is full of unexpected delights. We saw a few deer, just hanging out in the fancy backyards.
And the ride home... oh my. Just a little after sunset, the sky still a deep dark blue. The roads were mostly newly paved, there was a slight breeze and it was just downhill all the way. I feel about summer nightbiking like michael stipe felt about nightswimming.
I came home and ate a bowl of creamy yogurt with farmers market blueberries and a handful of walnuts. I have 12 peaches ripening on the shelf. E worked on a jigsaw puzzle while I sipped a gin and tonic and thought about how lucky i am.
