E moved in and she's just this jolt of positive energy in my life. That first day she arrived i asked her, "how do you feel about moving all the way here, leaving your parents and your brothers and the kids behind?" and without hesitation she answered, "GREAT" and she was just glowing and ready and open for whatever happens next in life. I can't really say enough how grateful I am to have her here in DC with me right now. I feel so safe.

On Saturday we got out of the house early to bike to beautiful Union Station to catch the train to Baltimore to watch a 14 mile race of human-powered sculptures -- mostly through the streets but also the sculptures had to be able to float in Chesapeake Bay and power through an obstacle course of mud and sand. I'm so glad I thought to take the bikes on the train... so much fun to weave through the neighborhoods in a procession of these amazing machines and costumes. The crowd was friendly and I was chatty.

And then this week felt so normal. Having a community now makes all the difference. I make dinner and sometimes people stop by, or we sit on the porch and have a beer. It's so easy.

also... oooh, i was in class this week with this dreamy dude I briefly worked with in Uganda, years ago. I felt a zap of...something. Attraction. I forgot what that was like, and it feels good. I was kind of side-eyeing him for a few days and then I just had lunch with him today. That's all. Nothing, but also maybe something. Or not, it doesn't matter. The fun was in the unknown of it. I am so grateful to be able to write an entry like this. I feel like myself and I do not take that for granted.
