Dad's okay. They not sure what happened.. he had a few days in the hospital and then was discharged for further tests. The whole week was insane: crazy work deadline / dad in hospital / BT's birthday / christmas / my birthday / sister's wedding / new years / family in town / more crazy work deadlines.. So now it feels like i had one really long and intense day and I can't remember any of it.

The only things that really stand out are:
1. Once again so grateful for Canada health system and also those incredible heroes working at hospitals at all hours, cheerful and warm for people scared and sad to be stuck in the hospital at christmas.
2. I loved the quiet moments before my sister's wedding, while she was getting her hair and makeup done. My parents, her new mother- and sister-in-law, and i got to hang out and marvel at how lovely she was. During the actual wedding I was standing up at the front and i couldn't see her face because I was next to her, so somehow it feels like it didn't really happen.
3. I had a whole lot of thoughts about weddings. Mostly just that the benefit (beyond a really sweet party) is that everyone involved gets to say a lot of important welcoming things and that just sets the relationship onto a good trajectory. So though they are expensive, weddings have a payoff far beyond the immediate moment.
4. Oh also my brother bought a house and moved out of my parents' house and he also got a ring and is pulling together a proposal plan, so good we get to do all this again and hopefully this time I can remember it all.
5. I will never again get myself in a position where i have pretty intense work commitments in the middle of something personally important. I need to be able to be in the moment. That was a regret but hopefully I learned from it.
