oof, i take it back. now I hate chariots of fire. It was a brief phase... I loved that movie when I was a kid. I wonder how it holds up. These days I'm mildly obsessed with slow patrick watson-esque music. I think I was better off last month when I almost only listened to the Clash.

It's not all ethereal slow-fi though... Been to a few shows lately - a beautiful avant-garde cello player i love, who plays outside in a garden, looping and weaving cello and voice. Titus Andronic*s a few days ago. I think I was 10 years older than the average attendee, which meant I stayed on the edge of the mosh pit with an arm out, and when I got home my ears rang for an hour as I fantasized about quitting everything to go be a touring moderately successful rock star. Also: the usual brass bands on the street. A washboard here, a jug band there.

All this to say: Beautiful spring days. The magnolias are out, all creamy. But I am mostly inside because work. Even when I'm not working, I admit I'm hiding inside because I am afraid I'll start day-drinking and never stop. Sometimes I do that and these days it's harder to recover.

Anyway, I don't mind all the work too much because I feel like I might one day finish this dissertation and then off into the unknown. I've been saying that for a while, I know, but now I really mean it.
