in uganda again. I think my 6th or 7th trip overall, and my second this year. I finished work at 6pm and then had nothing to do because I don't really know too many people here and anyway i was jetlag spacy to the point that everything seemed surreal.

I went up to the top floor of the hotel and drank whiskey with my manager and watched the end of the sunset. He likes telling me stories. I am all ears and appreciative audience. But every time I start telling a story he checks out and starts checking his phone. Power move? Are my stories *that* bad? I admit it's awkward to think of work-appropriate things to talk about that are not work-related... this is probably why people watch sports.

It is straight up demeaning. So I pulled out my kindle and just stopped talking and read Jane Austen every time he stopped paying attention to me. It was not ideal but I was at a loss. My sister would have known what to say. She's so good at handling people who push her too far. Our mutual friend criticized some of the snacks she'd served him and she just said mildly, "there's a store across the street." That same friend complained to me about the salsa (admittedly not delicious) I put out as a snack while making him dinner, and i stopped what I was doing and ADDED TOMATO AND CILANTRO TO MAKE IT BETTER. What a chump.

I digress (uninterestingly? ugh, my stories *are* bad). This is going to be one of those trips where I'm in the city the whole time talking to people in suits. Government, etc. Not exactly what I signed up for but i suppose in the long run it's important? I do have a new dress and purple lipstick, and you'd be surprised how much it helps. Here I go. Meeting. Meeting. Meeting.
