epic thunderstorm last night that lasted for hours. It was so unusual that I had to look up the radar. Looked like half the country was getting rain, and the entire southeast was a seething mass of red and yellow. I like thinking about these huge weather patterns... my sister and I were under the same storm system, even though I'm halfway across the continent.
Because of the storm, all the bugs moved inside. At some point I scooped up a giant palmetto bug in a dishtowel, and when I ran to the back door to throw him out there was a huge gray slug oozing his way up the door. Those slugs are so giant and so awesome and so snot-like. Living here so often feels like I'm in the Caribbean. I love it.
I wanted to put on my raincoat and wander around in the deluge, but I knew I'd end up at a bar and I'm trying to do less of that. I settled for hanging out in the kitchen improvising a sort of japanese dinner and listening to east coast banjo. The rain misted in through the open windows. I talked to my sister for a couple of hours. Pretty perfect friday night.
