Dreaming of cadbury's mini-eggs...

I was just eating lunch with my co-workers and trying to explain the whole concept of the Easter Bunny. I started by telling them about how my brother, sister, and I would search for chocolates outside our house, along the driveway, in the grass... but no one could comprehend eating something from the ground here, and I couldn't explain that gorgeous feeling of clean grass in the spring. Ground that no one has ever spit on, or defecated on.... that is a big space reserved only for you and your family.

Anyway, we are in the city and no one has big, fenced-off, grassy backyards like we do at home, so it was just getting too complicated. I abandoned the explanation of hiding chocolate outside.

But even explanations involving hiding chocolates inside the house proved to be a bit incomprehensible ("What about the ants? Don't you get cockroaches? Doesn't the chocolate melt?")

And then I had to explain that we are collectively operating on the premise that the chocolate is delivered by a magical rabbit who no one ever sees...

(eggs? why eggs? rabbits don't lay eggs? what do rabbits have to do with easter? do christians consider rabbits holy?)

i knew the whole giant-invisible-rabbit thing was ridiculous, but i never realized HOW ridiculous until i had to explain it to a group of people politely trying to pretend that they understood.

This whole easter bunny thing is probably not going to catch on here.

And two of the adolescent girls just came up to me, shook my hand, and wished me "happy fools day." I was waiting for the handshake buzzer, the handful of paint, some indian prank.... nothing.
