okay... time here is winding down. Four weeks of work to go, and then i'll go on a little tour with my family, assuming that the power doesn't go out and this time their plane takes off.

writing that is just tempting fate, i know.

And then i'll leave for a week in Thailand and then back to Toronto on Jan 13. I started thinking about job searches today. job searching. in canada. in winter. and i'll be broke. woo!

we shall see if the following things make up for the painfulness i'm expecting: cheddar cheese, hot showers, crisp clean air, water out of the tap, washing machines, soft carpeted floors, a pair of jeans other than the ONE PAIR i've been wearing for FIVE MONTHS (i do wear other things, but jeans are jeans), family, friends, dog, my bed, my pillow, and my cd collection.

Oh, and spinach salad. Can't wait for that. And red wine.

work is SO busy. Organizing a workshop on innovations in domestic violence. Finalizing research, interviews, and issues for upcoming meeting where we'll try to get all levels in the slums connected on some health initiatives.

The fundraising never ends, of course... geh. i hate trying to raise money. I hate funding proposals. I hate grant applications.

My old manager had a theory that grant applications are a way of keeping us so busy jumping through hoops that we never have time to wonder why, when there is SO MUCH MONEY IN THE WORLD, we still have to fight so hard to get money for things that are obviously so good.

At first i thought she was joking, but now I've spent months putting together 50 page applications for funding, and i'm not so sure.

it's getting dark. I'm off for my daily dose of masala chai next to the ocean.
